Puryear emphasizes craft and abstraction in his larger-than-life sculptures. He uses organic forms and natural materials to rework symbols of freedom and shelter that encourage us to discover Black history’s hidden stories.
Because Stanford museums are currently closed, Second Sunday will be going virtual once again! Museum educators will be presenting Second Sunday Live on September 13, 2020 via Zoom. In this interactive half-hour virtual session beginning at 11 AM PDT, museum educators will guide you in creating your own mixed media artwork inspired by the mysterious, organic minimal forms of Martin Puryear. We will explore texture, shape and form using an art technique called Frottage. The Anderson Collection holds two amazing sculptures that inspire this activity.
You will receive access to the Zoom session by registering through the Eventbrite link. To protect privacy, the format will be a Zoom webinar and participant cameras will be turned off. Once again, we will be streaming via Facebook Live on our Cantor channel.
Hope to see you all there!
