Student Engagement Assistants

Student Engagement Assistants (SEAs) at the Cantor Arts Center will work as a team in collaboration with the Department of Academic and Public Programs to produce lively, fun, and dynamic engagement opportunities for Stanford students and for the larger community of attendees at the museum. The main focus will be on presenting our most popular programs: Museum Nights for Stanford students and Art for All Family Days, and to help support a welcoming and inclusive environment at the Cantor.

In this role, you will be paid to support the planning and production for these events and to evaluate current museum visitor experience, but you will also learn about how museums operate and discuss the role of museums in contemporary society. SEAs develop event planning, engagement, facilitation, and visual literacy skills. They have the opportunity to interact with experts from a wide variety of disciplines.

Training, brainstorming, and planning meetings are held several Monday afternoons of fall and winter quarters at the Cantor Arts Center. Attendance is required and will be compensated. No Monday meetings will be held on the weeks of or just following our big events, but attendance is required for the duration of these events instead:

Art for All Family Days: October 13, 2024 and April 13, 2025, 9am–4pm
Two times a year the Stanford museums opens early on Sunday to welcome families for a festive day of free art making activities, scavenger hunts, storytimes and live music performances on the Cantor’s North Lawn. SEAs will act as museum art educators facilitating art making activities and helping children and their adults build exciting connections with art on view in the museums.

Museum Nights: February 27, 2025 and May 22, 2025, 4pm–11pm
The museum will be open late one night during each of the Winter and Spring quarters for a special student event. The event will feature a variety of activities and programs for students, such as live performances, art making activities, gallery tours, and more. SEAs will help brainstorm activities for these evening events and will assist in publicizing and staffing on the night of the events.

You will be expected to work approximately fifteen to twenty (15–20) hours each quarter.
Optional additional hours may be available through opportunities for engagement work at the museum throughout the year, for instance conducting surveys about visitor experience or answering questions and facilitating engagement for visitors inside the museum galleries on high-attendance days like Stanford Family Weekend.

Requirements
Applicants must be friendly, reliable, responsive to email, have good communication and organizational skills, and be able to manage time and resources effectively. Must be able to work the dates mentioned above as well as regularly attend meetings at the Museum on Mondays at 4:30pm.

SEAs are paid an hourly rate commensurate with the Stanford pay scale for students.

The Student Engagement Assistant program is open to any Stanford student, including undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.

Students with a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences are encouraged to apply. Prior experience with museums, art, or event planning is not necessary. Applicants should have a strong interest in museums, museum programming and/or museum education.

Aplications will reopen Spring 2025
