Have you ever wondered what it would be like to volunteer at a world-class museum? Do you enjoy meeting diverse people from throughout the community and world? Would you like to help support the accessibility of the arts at a landmark cultural institution? Are you over 18 years old?

We are seeking diverse groups of candidates to join our volunteer team. Our volunteers are ambassadors of the Stanford art museums and essential front-line team members! We rely on our volunteers to facilitate and ensure an inclusive and positive visitor experience for everyone. No prior art knowledge necessary!

Our front desk ambassadors are key to the visitor experience of our guests. They welcome visitors to the museum, provide wayfinding support, and collaborate with museum staff to help ensure an inclusive and equitable experience for all. Museum Engagement Guide

Our museum engagement guides enhance the visitor experience of our guests by conducting visitor tours intended to provide thought provoking engagement that ignites in-gallery conversations with a critical, inclusive, and people-centered approach. Information Desk Ambassador

Must be 18 years old and above.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

  • Greet all visitors to the museum.
  • Collect and record visitor attendance at the Information Desk and in the galleries.
  • Help ensure an inclusive and equitable experience for all visitors.
  • Work in cooperation with all museum staff, security personnel, and other volunteers to ensure a positive visitor experience.
  • Provide visitors with information regarding museum history, exhibitions, tours and programs.
  • Inform visitors of museum and Stanford protocols and wayfinding.
  • Participate in ongoing training.
  • Address visitor questions and concerns regarding parking.

SCHEDULE

Volunteers commit to a weekly participation with a minimum of one year of service.

EXPECTATIONS

  • Customer service-focused attitude, likes working with the public.
  • Dependable and punctual for all volunteer assignments.
  • Volunteers are team players and open to feedback and guidance from museum staff.
  • Volunteers are committed to Stanford University’s diversity, equity, accessibility and inclusion (DEAI) priorities and creating a space where all visitors feel welcome at the museum.
  • Be willing and able to perform duties independently once provided with training.
  • Comply with all museum and University policies.

Materials and Training

MATERIALS TO BE PROVIDED BY THE MUSEUM

  • iPad at the visitor services desk that is set up by staff before each shift.
  • Museum Volunteer badge or identifier.
  • M parking permit.

TRAINING

Volunteers must complete all training and orientation sessions prior to beginning their assignment.
