We are seeking diverse groups of candidates to join our volunteer team. Our volunteers are ambassadors of the Stanford art museums and essential front-line team members! We rely on our volunteers to facilitate and ensure an inclusive and positive visitor experience for everyone. No prior art knowledge necessary!
Our museum engagement guides enhance the visitor experience of our guests by conducting visitor tours intended to provide through provoking engagement that ignites in-gallery conversations with a critical, inclusive, and people-centered approach. Our front desk ambassadors are key to the visitor experience of our guests. They welcome visitors to the museum, provide wayfinding support, and collaborate with museum staff to help ensure an inclusive and equitable experience for all. Are you looking for a way to become involved in museums? Do you enjoy talking with people about art? The Cantor Arts Center and the Anderson Collection, both at Stanford University, are jointly recruiting a new class of Museum Engagement Guides!
Once trained, Museum Engagement Guides enjoy great benefits, such as: spending time in the museums weekly engaging with a diverse visitor community, ongoing continued education resources, access to Stanford University libraries with lending privileges and online research, a complimentary membership to both the Cantor Arts Center and the Anderson Collection and many more. Museum Engagement Guides are expected to make a two year commitment which includes six months of initial training starting in January 2024. The training will be delivered in a hybrid format consisting of in-person sessions and online modules.

Please submit your application to the Museum Gallery Engagement Training Program by December 11, 2023. Join us during one of the informational sessions and apply by the date above to ensure your participation in the selection process. We strongly encourage diverse applicants to join the program. No prior art or art history experience is required.
Must be 18 years old and above.
ROLE DESCRIPTION
SCHEDULE
Volunteers commit to a minimum of two shifts per month for one year. The Cantor is open Wednesday to Sunday, 11am-5pm. Volunteers shifts are scheduled from 10:45am-2pm OR 1:45pm-5pm.
EXPECTATIONS
MATERIALS TO BE PROVIDED BY THE MUSEUM
TRAINING
Volunteers will attend a 2.5-hour training before they begin at the front desk. The initial training session will include topics such as current museum visitor policies, customer services strategies, and details about the museum collection and history. Volunteers are expected to participate in ongoing (DEAI) training, bi-annual trainings/meetings and exhibition walkthroughs with museum staff as new exhibitions open.
