Have you wondered what it would be like to volunteer at a world-class museum? Do you enjoy meeting diverse people from throughout the community and world? Would you like to help support the accessibility of the arts at a landmark cultural institution? Are you over 18 years old?

We are seeking diverse groups of candidates to join our volunteer team. Our volunteers are ambassadors of the Stanford art museums and essential front-line team members! We rely on our volunteers to facilitate and ensure an inclusive and positive visitor experience for everyone. No prior art knowledge necessary!

 

Information Desk Ambassador

Must be 18 years old and above.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

  • Check-in visitors and process walk-up reservations as required.
  • Help ensure an inclusive and equitable experience for all visitors.
  • Work in cooperation with all museum staff, security officers and other volunteers to ensure visitors’ needs are met.
  • Provide visitors with basic details regarding museum history, exhibitions, tours and programs.
  • Assist with museum and campus wayfinding and directions.
  • Participate in periodic training and exhibition briefings.
  • Greet all visitors to the museum.
  • Address visitor questions and concerns regarding parking.

The Cantor is open Wednesday to Sunday, 11am-5pm. Volunteers shifts are scheduled from 10:45am-2pm OR 1:45pm-5pm.

     

      EXPECTATIONS

      • Customer service-oriented attitude, likes working with the public.
      • Be committed to Stanford University’s diversity, equity, accessibility and inclusion (DEAI) priorities and creating a space where all visitors feel welcome at the museum.
      • Be willing to learn and use the museum’s reservation software with guidance and support from staff.
      • Be willing and able to perform duties independently once provided with training.
      • Volunteers are team players and open to feedback and guidance from museum staff.
      • Compliance with university policies, including COVID-19 vaccination and safety guidelines.

        Materials and Training

        MATERIALS TO BE PROVIDED BY THE MUSEUM

        • iPad at the visitor services desk that is set up by staff before each shift.
        • Museum Volunteer badge or identifier.
        • M parking permit.

        TRAINING

        Volunteers will attend a 2.5-hour training before they begin at the front desk. The initial training session will include topics such as current museum visitor policies, customer services strategies, and details about the museum collection and history. Volunteers are expected to participate in ongoing (DEAI) training, bi-annual trainings/meetings and exhibition walkthroughs with museum staff as new exhibitions open.
