Gifts of Art

The Cantor Arts Center collection includes some 44,000 works spanning the history of art and a multitude of cultures. The core of the collection was provided by the university's founders, Jane and Leland Stanford, and has since been augmented, largely through the generosity of donors, both alumni and friends. Gifts of art enhance the museum's collections and support its mission as a teaching and research institution, so that future generations can experience the power and enjoyment of learning through great works of art.

The museum welcomes gifts of art consistent with the focus of its collections and the museum's commitment to excellence.

If you are interested in submitting your proposed gift of art we ask that you please read the below submissions guidelines:

  • Please include images of the work(s), artist(s) name, title, date, medium (oil, watercolor, print, etc.), size, and condition.
  • State if the work(s) are for the purpose of lending (for temporary display), sale (please include price and deadline), or for donation.

You can submit your materials via email (preferred) to Jorge Sibaja, jsibaja@stanford.edu or via mail, addressed to:

Additional notes:

  • The submission review process may take several weeks. The images and documentation provided will be reviewed by our curatorial team in order to determine if they fit into the museum’s future collecting goals and forthcoming exhibition plans.
  • During the initial phase of the review process curators cannot make studio visits or visits to private collections. If there is any interest in your donation a member of our staff will contact you regarding next steps.
  • The museum is unable to authenticate or appraise your collection. It is the owner’s responsibility to authenticate and appraise works of art prior to their donation or sale.
  • We ask that you do not send original works of art or bring works of art into the museum without first making an appointment with a member of our curatorial staff.
